The Nominees for Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Chicago

After many months of interviewing and visiting the search committee for the Diocese of Chicago has posted its nominees for Bishop. You can check them out here.

I happen to know, or have met, three of the five. I think it's a good slate, a hopeful slate. It will be curious to see where the Spirit lead us. The election is in November.

Is it just reactionary of me to be tickled that there are more women than men?

Mwa ha ha!

I'll be praying!

Well, 60% are women - and I have not heard of any of them - but I'll be praying for the one that will best suit the diocese and its people.

marybeth, mwhaa haa ha indeed. i think all of us (Episcopal) women are on the same page....

cathy, I have met two of them and they are dynamo, but I have heard that all three bring great gifts. I have also met one of the men, and he is a deeply spiritual man (Lee). I've not had the pleasure of meeting the other male, but I hear good things about him. So, really, I think we can't go wrong no matter what...how's that for a job well done!

Mompriest,
I read your blog with interest and found you through Jan at Yearning for God.
Thank you for your thoughtful posts.
Blessings and prayers as your Diocese moves through this discernment time.

It is apparently making some press that none of these nominees is a person of color. As it turns out only one person of color submitted their name for consideration and then dropped out at the 11th hour for family reasons. It should also be noted that we currently have an Hispanic assistant Bishop and our Canon to the Ordinary is a Japanese American. So, two people on diocesan staff of color - but there are no ordained women on the diocesan staff and only one full time lay woman.

We in MN will be watching with interest. Our day is coming soon as our Bp has announced his retirement and we too are beginning the process. Blessings on your search.

yes, you will be in our prayers. I think the name Tracey Lind is familiar to me. Did she write a book?

She wrote a book called, "Interrupted by God." It is a photo and essay book, she took the photos and wrote the essays. Really wonderful stories and photos....

I echo the woo-hoos about the three women on your slate! I think you have a very strong slate-it will be interesting to see how it goes.
Three women and one an out lesbian...how absolutely awesome. Prayers for a good process and outcome for all.

It looks like a good slate, and more women too. I hope the one elected is a good one. And I mean that even though I am not Episcopalian.

You reckon we Methodist will ever have more women then men? Oh well.
