I had been thinking of and praying for you Sunday...knowing that the tough thing was coming up.

What a gift you gave, through your grief, to the daughter and to the child baptized. And probably to the parents too, the ones who left you. You kept your arms open to them, though they had walked away. I hope the significance of that becomes clear to them.

as you may know, my parents left TEC for the same reasons, splitting their church, and are now under the bishop of Uganda. I think I am okay with that, until I read something like this, and I cry all over again.

blessings.Mary Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02970052534402740820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678482213828648107.post-8115986778929762372007-09-24T23:26:00.000-04:002007-09-24T23:26:00.000-04:00It makes me angry to hear the bishop from Nigeria ...It makes me angry to hear the bishop from Nigeria say such things when there are other things happening in Nigeria that aren't the epitome of morality, either...
I suppose that is counterproductive, but the idea is to get over our own self-righteousness.Diane M. I ...Thanks everyone for entering this conversation. I appreciate your empathy chartreuseova...I guess I might have done the same...still, it hurts. I guess that's where I feel like we are all culpable for the sin in this, the hurt we cause one another. It isn't the "sin" of the "homosexual" - that's pointing a finger at "behavior" - it is the sin of broken relationship...and that is the deeper more pervasive sin that Jesus speaks of when he says, "Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself..." and we fail to do that.Terrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15667178624061122421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678482213828648107.post-16420213714209242652007-09-24T21:38:00.000-04:002007-09-24T21:38:00.000-04:00I have much empathy for the grandparents who left....I have much empathy for the grandparents who left. I don't agree with their views at all, but I faced this issue from the other side as a member of a conservative church. It was hard to leave friends and community and the pastor worked hard to keep us. But we simply couldn't continue to ignore that issue & others. Especially for our daughter. And certainly the pastor and church couldn't embrace our views and we couldn't accept the "hate the sin; love the sinner" messages.chartreuseovahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15322876407019229383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678482213828648107.post-82253825229222227492007-09-24T13:11:00.000-04:002007-09-24T13:11:00.000-04:00It's an issue dividing many churches, small and la...It's an issue dividing many churches, small and large. You were courageous to stand up for basic human dignity in a situation where you knew it would mean losing several members of your church. What is sad about people like Akinola is the hatred they foster, when they are supposed to be representatives of Christ.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678482213828648107.post-12961999108083464992007-09-23T22:28:00.000-04:002007-09-23T22:28:00.000-04:00Some days it's like that isn't it...well done thou...Some days it's like that isn't it...well done though, picking your way through this one, and all its accompanying "stuff"...no wonder you are tired! Rest well. Thanks for posting on the meetings...it was good to go catch up, reading all the different viewpoints was very edifying!
